- Dr. Mebis receives the Piero Periti Review Article Award
Dr. Jeroen Mebis (Virga Jesse, Hasselt) has received the 2010 Piero Periti Award for best review in the Journal of Chemotherapy. PharmaXL has assisted Dr. Mebis in writing and editing this document. We have set up a group on LinkedIn, the well known network site. The group is called 'Belgian Medical Writers' and the aim of this group is to gather professionals (freelancers, CRO, pharma, etc) active in the medical writing business in Belgium.

- Upcoming meetings
Between July 12 and 16, about 120 scientists from all over the globe will come to Leuven for the Serpins 2008 meeting! PharmaXL is the designated PCO. More details about this meeting on serpins2008.org.
The next EMWA meeting will take place in London in November.

- Rita Aert appointed congress manager.
After a very intensive selection period, Dr. Rita Aert was selected as the new congress manager for PharmaXL. Dr. Aert obtained her PhD in pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Leuven, after which she worked as a scientist at the same university. Dr. Aert has several years of experience in DNA-sequencing. She will work as congress manager at PharmaXL starting January 1, 2008 and she will also be active as a medical writer.

- PharmaXL joins Flanders Bio.
The membership of PharmaXL in Flanders Bio is approved by the general board on November 21, 2007. FlandersBio is the organization representing the Flemish life sciences cluster which members are organizations involved with life sciences R&D and/or -production in Flanders or servicing the Flemish life sciences community.

- PharmaXL allowed as a member of WaRDeR.
PharmaXL will be part of the restart of WaRDeR From January 1, 2008. WaRDeR is an Economic Interest Group dedicated to promoting medical research in Wallonia. This English acronym stands for Wallonian Research & Development Repository.
The group aims at 'Promoting, on behalf of its Members, the development in Wallonia of research activities and clinical experiments focused on Biobanks, sets of stage 1 and any other research design stages 2, 3 and 4. To this end, taking all the necessary steps dedicated to business development, marketing and trade.'

As we are working in the pharmaceutical environment, where keeping track of data is a must, PharmaXL has chosen to backup all its data through the online backup system Tivoli from IBM. PharmaXL is cooperating with Risc Security to achieve the goal of having all data (old and new) just one click away!

- Pre-satellite meeting of PSWC2007 was a giant success!
With more than 400 participants (mainly PhD students and postdocs), the pre-satellite meeting of PSWC2007 organised in Amsterdam was a huge success. PharmaXL was one of the sponsors of the young investigator awards.

With the launch of the new url for PharmaXL, the wesite will be restyled. This restyling does not include major changes but is necessary to improve the usability of the site. The new site is currently in testing phase and will be online on 15 May 2007.

- 'Serpins 2008'-meeting
in Leuven
Only a few weeks after the launch of our new PCO service, a first contract for the organization of an international meeting has been signed. PharmaXL has been asked by Prof P. Declerck of the KULeuven to organize the Serpins 2008 meeting in Leuven. This meeting is an international meeting with 120 participants.

- Young Investigator Awards
at the PSWC pre-satellite meeting in Amsterdam
The 3rd Pharmaceutical World Sciences Congress (PSWC) will be held in Amsterdam on April 22-25, 2007. A pre-satellite meeting for Young Pharmaceutical Scientists will be held on April 20-21, 2007. At this pre-satellite meeting, PharmaXL will sponsor one of the Young Investigator Awards for the most outstanding poster presentation.

- UK
DiLab invited Sven Deferme as a chairman for the discussion forum on their UK user group meeting in September 2006. Sven was the organizer of the first user group meeting of DiLab and gave a presentation on the role of automated blood sampling in PK at the second user group meeting in Italy.

'thePharmacist', a new journal that will be launched in 2007, and PharmaXL have agreed to appoint Sven Deferme in the function of International Correspondent for the journal. Sven will cover news and meetings from out of Europe.

Our managing director, Sven Deferme, has been elected as a member of the executive board of Farmaleuven, the alumni society of pharmacists of the Leuven University. The next 2 years, he will focus on the continued education for pharmacists.

to Plato V
PharmaXL has been selected by Voka, the belgian chambers of commerce and industry, to participate to Plato V, a project for growing companies, supported by the government of Flanders. In the Plato project, people from these companies join together once every month to exchange ideas and experiences around different business topics.
